2 Quarter NSED 2026: Strengthening Earthquake Preparedness Through Collective Action of Every Sorsoganon
SORSOGON PROVINCE – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) encourages all residents, schools, government offices, private establishments, and community organizations to actively participate in the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) scheduled on June 18, 2026, at 9:00 AM.
The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill is a regular government initiative designed to enhance public awareness, preparedness, and response capabilities in the event of a major earthquake. Through simulation exercises and emergency drills, communities are provided with the opportunity to practice life-saving procedures and evaluate their readiness for earthquake-related emergencies.
In accordance with the directive of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Region V, the conduct of the 2nd Quarter NSED aims to strengthen coordination among local government units, national government agencies, educational institutions, private organizations, and communities. The exercise also serves as a venue to review and improve contingency plans, evacuation procedures, and emergency response protocols.
As the Philippines is situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, earthquakes remain one of the country’s most significant natural hazards. Regular earthquake drills play a vital role in ensuring that individuals and organizations are prepared to respond effectively during seismic events, thereby reducing risks to life and property.
Participants are reminded to observe the basic earthquake safety procedure:
• DUCK – Lower yourself to the ground to prevent being knocked over.
• COVER – Take shelter under a sturdy table or desk and protect your head and neck.
• HOLD – Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops.
The drill will also provide an opportunity for schools, offices, and business establishments to assess their emergency preparedness measures and identify areas for improvement. Active participation from all sectors of society is essential in building a culture of safety and resilience.
The PDRRMO calls on everyone to take this activity seriously and use it as an opportunity to strengthen preparedness, increase awareness, and foster a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction and management.
Preparedness saves lives. By participating in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, we take an important step toward creating safer, more resilient communities capable of facing future disasters with confidence and readiness.
Be prepared. Stay alert. Stay safe.
